A self-taught plein air oil painter who’s work captures the play of light and atmosphere on the subject, Phil originates from Bethesda, Md. He spent his childhood summers in Orleans with his family and grandparents, moving to the Cape full time after graduating from Harvard in 1970.
Careered as a custom builder, Philip first indulged in oil painting part-time in 1995, studying with well known artists Charles Sovek, Steve Allrich, and Don Demers. He joined the Board of the Creative Arts Center of Chatham for five years, last serving as its Vice President.
Philip has also won numerous awards in juried shows, most notably getting First Place and Best in Show at the prestigious All Cape Show and the Leo Diehl Show.
Presently, Philip resides in Orleans with his artist wife, Catherine and their wonderful red golden retriever, Brioche.
