Kalo Maloney: A Journey from Art to Social Work and Back

During Kalo’s formative years, her father was a commercial artist for the Borden Company, and she enjoyed watching him create signs, labels and logos. She often played with the art material in his studio.

As a young adult Kalo was able to save enough money to attend DuCret School of The Arts in Plainfield NJ in 1979/1980 for a year. She was able to find a job as a color separation artist and did that for 11 years until computers extinguished that job. Kalo went back to school and became a licensed clinical social worker in the 90’s, and devoted her time to serving families that were involved in Child Protective Services, as well as Hospice patients and their families.

Kalo has recently retired and finally able to devote her time and energy back to art. She had to become reacquainted with the concepts and application, having been away from it during her social work years. Kalo is inspired by the beauty of the Cape, as well as the art community she’s come to know and love.
