2021 Eastham Painters Guild Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to the 2021 Eastham Painters Guild scholarship winner from Cape Cod Tech, Betsy O’Rielly. Living in Mashpee, Betsy has been a student in design and visual communications and she will be attending Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her graphic arts teacher at Cape Cod Tech, Scott Nagle, said that Betsy “is one of the most talented and capable design students that I have seen at the high school or college level. She is conceptually and technically at a level of illustrating and layout that I believe could gain her employment and/or acceptance into many of the art schools she is interested in.”
Congratulations also to Nauset Regional High School 2021 scholarship winners Rachel Pranga and Willa Crowell.
Rachel is from Orleans, and will be attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She strives to capture the beauty of the natural world, and also really enjoys creating realistic portraits of people’s pets. Over the past few years, her love of new challenges has led Rachel to experiment in a wide variety of mediums, but her favorites so far are colored pencil, graphite, and acrylic paint because they offer a high level of control and the ability to add many layers of detail. Rachel feels that creativity should play an integral role in each of our lives – “while there is so much that we miss everyday, art gives us the powerful ability to capture the essence of a fleeting feeling, memory, or moment and preserve it in our hearts forever.”
Willa Crowell has played soccer, lacrosse, and diving as well as participated in Nauset Regional High School’s orchestra and art department. Willa will be attending Stanford University in the fall, pursuing a degree in engineering and architectural design. With this degree, she intends to give back to my environment and community by creating sustainable infrastructure.
The Eastham Painters Guild wishes Betsy, Rachel and Willa the best in their future college endeavors and beyond!
